Stammering Choir

Chris Timms | 19.04.2016

Chris Timms is looking for people who stammer to form an amateur choir in London.

MonkThe Stammering Choir is an amateur choir attempting to bring together people who stammer to perform a range of vocal works written by a monk in the middle ages known as ‘Notker the Stammerer’.

The vocal pieces were written in a style that predates any formal musical notation system, so they are quite open to interpretation. As part of my studies for my MFA in art, I’m working on a contemporary interpretation of them, exploring their form and style but rewriting aspects of their content.

I’m still in the process of setting the choir up, so if you, or anyone else you know, is in anyway interested in giving it a go I’d be delighted to hear from you. All abilities and levels are actively welcome and encouraged, no experience necessary whatsoever!

I have a location available in my University in New Cross (London SE14), but if there is enough interest I can organise a more central venue. I’m proposing a provisional date of the 28th of May for the first rehearsal, but being entirely dependant on participants availability - this may change.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me at chriscotimms@gmail.com , and of course I welcome any questions or queries too. I hope to hear from you!
